Synopsis
According to the UIDAI website, e-Aadhaar QR codes contain demographic information about the resident such as Name, Address, Date of Birth, Gender, and Masked Aadhaar Number. In addition, the larger QR code includes a photograph.
UIDAI has replaced the existing QR code on e-Aadhaar that contained resident’s demographic statistics with a secure QR code that provides demographics as well as the Aadhaar holder’s photograph.
Now, Aadhaar has two QR codes, and this information will be signed with a UIDAI digital signature to make it more secure and tamper-proof. A small one on the front with only demographic data and another one which is a large one on the top portion of the front and back sides of the cutaway portion with demographic data and a photo.
According to the UIDAI website, e-Aadhaar QR codes contain demographic information about the resident such as Name, Address, Date of Birth, Gender, and Masked Aadhaar Number. In addition, the larger QR code includes a photograph.
Aadhaar QR Code Scanner is an official mobile application developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to provide the ability to read and validate the data contained in the QR code displayed on eAadhaar and printed Aadhaar PVC cards.
By scanning the QR code on your Aadhaar PVC card with QR code readers or the mAadhaar mobile application, you can instantly and easily verify the identity, according to the tweet by UIDAI.
You would have probably noticed that the printed Aadhaar includes a QR Code. This is a digitally signed QR code that can be used for authentication. All you have to do is open your mAadhaar app’s QR Code Scanner and scan the QR Code on the presented Aadhaar. The demographic information and a photograph of the Aadhaar holder will be displayed on the screen. To verify identity, you can match these to the Aadhaar presenter.
How to Verify Aadhaar with a QR scan via the mAadhaar app:
Step 1: Download and open the mAadhaar app.
Step 2: Launch the QR Code Scanner. Please keep in mind that every printed Aadhaar card contains a QR Code.
Step 3 Scan the QR Code on the presented Aadhaar.
Step 4: Verify the same with physical copy presented to you.
According to the UIDAI website, “This new digitally signed QR code can be read ONLY using UIDAI’s windows based Custom client for desktops/laptops and validate it against UIDAI digital signatures in real time. Therefore, any fraud attempted on e-Aadhaar can be easily detected by using QR Code scanner.”
Any Aadhaar card can be verified online or offline. Scan the QR code on your e-Aadhaar, Aadhaar letter, or AadhaarPVCcard to verify offline. This QR code scanner can be used to verify the authenticity of Aadhaar presented to you.
