Indian logistics sector is estimated at USD 215 billion<\/span> in 2020 and is expected to <\/span>grow steadily led by e-commerce penetration and government initiatives such as <\/span>“Make<\/span> in India”,<\/span> 100% FDI in warehouses, food storage facilities, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. India’s logistics cost as a percentage of GDP is estimated at 13-14%<\/span> for India <\/span>whereas global average is 9-10%. The high logistics cost is due to under-developed <\/span>material<\/span> handling<\/span> infrastructure, <\/span>fragmented <\/span>warehousing, <\/span>multiple<\/span> regulatory\/ policy making bodies, lack of seamless<\/span> movement<\/span> of goods<\/span> across<\/span> modes<\/span> and lack <\/span>of integrated IT infrastructure\/modern technology. Improving logistics sector has <\/span>huge implication <\/span>on <\/span>exports and <\/span>it <\/span>is estimated that a <\/span>10 per cent decrease <\/span>in <\/span>indirect<\/span> logistics cost can increase<\/span> 5-8 per cent of exports.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. The sector is also labour-intensive and provides employment to more than 21 <\/span>million people in <\/span>India<\/span> and expected<\/span> to <\/span>employ <\/span>31 <\/span>million <\/span>by <\/span>2022 as per the <\/span>estimation of National Skill Development Council (NSDC).<\/span><\/p>\n

4. As <\/span>the sector <\/span>offers huge <\/span>growth <\/span>opportunities <\/span>in <\/span>next <\/span>few <\/span>years, <\/span>encouraging private sector to investment in <\/span>Logistics infrastructure will <\/span>reduce<\/span> the <\/span>cost of logistics and provide employment opportunity if right facilitation from the <\/span>Government is made available.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Initiatives from Government of Telangana :<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

After<\/span> the formation of state<\/span> in <\/span>2014, Government of Telangana has conducted a <\/span>detailed study to identify the key thrust<\/span> sectors for the state. Based on the study, the state has identified 14 thrust sectors, Logistics being one of them. To leverage <\/span>this opportunity,<\/span> Government<\/span> of Telangana<\/span> wants<\/span> to improve<\/span> the logistics sector in <\/span>the state<\/span> to ease the challenges and attract<\/span> private<\/span> investments.<\/span><\/p>\n

Telangana, <\/span>one <\/span>of the <\/span>fastest <\/span>growing <\/span>economies <\/span>in <\/span>India, <\/span>is <\/span>registering <\/span>
double <\/span>digit growth. The growth<\/span> of economy is sustained through <\/span>many landmark policy<\/span> interventions and implementation of robust<\/span> industrial policy<\/span> frameworks like <\/span>
TS-iPass<\/span> etc. Development of Logistics sector in the state will benefit Manufacturing sector and agriculture and Food processing sectors in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n

In <\/span>manufacturing <\/span>sector, <\/span>Government <\/span>of Telangana <\/span>has <\/span>taken <\/span>up <\/span>many development initiatives such as Hyderabad Pharma City, <\/span>National Manufacturing & <\/span>Investment Zone (NIMZ)<\/span> in <\/span>Zaheerabad, <\/span>Kakatiya<\/span> Mega <\/span>Textile<\/span> Park at Warangal, Electronic <\/span>Manufacturing<\/span> Clusters<\/span> in <\/span>Shamshabad,<\/span> Medical <\/span>Devices <\/span>Park <\/span>at <\/span>Sulthanpur, <\/span>Mega <\/span>MSME <\/span>Park <\/span>in <\/span>Dandumilaram, <\/span>Defence <\/span>Manufacturing<\/span> Hub <\/span>in Adibatla<\/span> etc and all <\/span>these<\/span> manufacturing<\/span> clusters<\/span> are expected<\/span> to supply the final <\/span>products across Country and Globally<\/span> also.<\/span><\/p>\n
